Canadian painter Tiffany Zufelt reflects on her practice in grounding her work through her experience as a migrant mother of two. Living around the world has not only exposed her to a rich cultural experience of motherhood, but enforced a questioning of self, women, creativity, partner, and friend. The body of work explores not the femininity of the objects but the experience of being a woman living with these objects that so often define us.
Working closely with Tiffany for a series of months developed a rich exploration of literature and an intersectionality of gender infusion, not only a lens of observation but also her mark-making technique. I would question the fast-paced response to her surroundings that evokes a rupture of experience from memories attached to the object which shifts cultural norms, and how these objects of the past sit inthe current environment.
